Many people aren't sure what the correct replacement period is on many of the maintenance parts their vehicle needs. This article from AskMen.com does a pretty good job of giving some basic guidelines. There are even a few items that I wouldn't consider maintenance items that have a replacement time. My suggestion is that you follow your manufacturers guidelines first, add this list to your knowledge base... and then find a good mechanic you can trust (and listen to them).
