Ted Talks Cars

One of my favorite sites recently is the Ted Talks web page for videos from respected speakers on a variety of topics. I wouldn't suggest you get started from work though, because the videos are engaging and lengthy and will zap chunks of your workday... so check it out from home.

The video highlighted below is from 2002 and discusses "Cars as Art" which is timeless. Careful, it is 20 minutes long.

How to Import A Classic or Collector Car Into Australia

How to Import A Classic or Collector Car Into Australia

Author: merv5

Firstly contact the appropriate Registration Dept. in your own State prior to importing to ensure that you can register the Classic Car OK.I have been importing for many years and have built up a very good list of reliable contacts in USA & Japan.
HOW TO LOCATE A VEHICLE,One of my main contacts is Mark Logan, President, "Nevada Classics " Mark specializes in Mustangs and can find what you want, arrange inspection and also organize transportation to Australia.Mark will only deal in cars with a minimum fair market value of $15000 US.Please check out Mark's Website for a inventory of Mustangs for Sale.

Looking for something other than a Mustang "Bill Paweski" Arizona Classics may be able to assist,Bill sells mainly Premium Muscle & Preformance Automobiles. Street Rods Mopars etc.To assist with values of Classic Cars in USA there is a website. nada.com this site will be able to give you approximate values of most American cars.

A Mustang can be checked out for authenticity be obtaining a Marti Report This report will be able to give you the history of your Mustang.A inspection is a must and the cost of one is a small price to pay Auto Appraise can arrange this for your piece of mind.Too late when your purchase arrives in Australia.
BILL OF SALE. You must have a signed bill of sale & the VIN number to accompany your application for a Import Permit, this permit must be obtained from Dept Of Transport in Canberra Australia before the vehicle can be imported.cost $50.Application Form can be applied for by phone or online.AIR CONDITIONER If the vehicle has an air conditioner you will be required to have a CFC Compliance Report to prove that the A/C has been degassed, but you will still have to sign a form stating that the vehicle is not fitted with an A/C .
California Shipping is the best option that i have found for shipping to Australia they can be contacted on or from Australia 00111714590.Make sure you arrange insurance on the car with them.

When the vehicle arrives in Australia you will require the services of a Customs Agent OBM International in Tullamarine Melbourne i have found to be very good, they will arrange Customs Quarantine .Please contact them as regards your GST and other associated costs before you import the car.The last thing you need is a nasty shock with costs when the car arrives. To finally take delivery obtain a Permit to drive it home or better still pick it up on a trailer and check it out before driving. This article should give you a general idea of what is required to import a Classic or Collector car into Australia regards Merv Thomas (Detroit Iron Australia).
