Car Insurance Deductibles

If you’ve done any research on what impacts the price of car insurance, you probably know that your auto deductible is the largest controllable factor, aside from coverage type, affecting the premiums you pay. Most drivers are also aware that if they raise their auto insurance deductible, their premiums will drop as a result. While many policyholders can benefit from higher deductibles, others may be better served by either keeping the same deductible or lowering it. Read on to determine which strategy best suits your financial status and driving habits.

What Is a Deductible?

An insurance deductible is the portion of the bill for which you are responsible in the event of a covered loss, such as an accident or a theft. Your insurer deducts the amount from the settlement you receive, which explains its name. Common denominations for deductibles include $0, $100, $500, $750, $1,000, and $1,500. Because you assume a larger share of financial responsibility with a higher deductible, insurers offer lower premiums to policyholders with more substantial deductibles.

Pros and Cons of Higher Deductibles

On the bright side, if you adjust your deductible upward, you will see a considerable drop in your annual premium. The higher you set your auto insurance deductible, the lower your premiums will be. Another factor that militates in favor of a higher deductible is that having to pay a deductible is not a certainty because you may not ever have an accident or other claim. On the other hand, premiums are an absolute certainty—you have to pay your premiums in order to maintain coverage. Thus, it may make sense to take more of a financial risk with your auto deductible than with your premiums by erring on the high side.

Conversely, setting your deductibles too high can have disastrous consequences if you’re not financially equipped to pay them after a covered loss occurs. You may have saved money on your premiums by setting the deductible very high, but you will probably lose all those savings and then some if a loss actually happens. If you’ve set your deductible so high that you cannot afford to pay it, you will not be able to get your car replaced or repaired until you can come up with the money.

Insurance Deductible: To Adjust or Not to Adjust

Two factors will determine whether you should adjust your deductible: your finances and your driving patterns. Financially, look at your monthly budget and savings and realistically assess if you could pay the deductible you’ve chosen comfortably. If not, the financially sound decision is to lower your deductible to protect yourself in the future. If you can, you might want to further examine your finances to see if you could absorb an even higher deductible. Also consider your driving record in setting deductibles. If you have accidents fairly regularly, a high deductible is more dangerous than if you’ve had a clean driving record for years.

Car Performance and the Cost of your Insurance

When you renew your car insurance, do you ever think about the factors that impact on the price you pay? This can often be very interesting as many people don’t stop to consider why they pay the price that they do. For instance, one factor that has a big impact on the cost of car insurance is the performance of the car itself.

It can be tempting to think that the better a car performs when you are driving, the less your car insurance will cost. Of course, while things such as how quickly a car comes to a stop when you brake are taken into account, factors such as acceleration and speed also play a role.

This means that even if your car performs well when it comes to braking, any cost benefits on your car insurance can be cancelled out if it has a high top speed and accelerates faster than most other cars – and it can even push the cost of your insurance up considerably.

This is because most cars that have a high top speed and accelerate extremely quickly are high performance cars, and statistically speaking they are more likely to result in insurance claims than cars with a lower top speed and more sedate acceleration. The car insurance companies build this into the insurance that you pay, so if you own a high performance car you are likely to have to pay more to insure it even if you never make use of your car’s capabilities.

Similarly, if you own an old car where the performance has been affected by age and deterioration, you might find you have to pay more to insure it, too. All of this is based on the likelihood of accidents in various types of cars: the higher the risk your car is seen to pose, the bigger the impact on your insurance costs.

SUV Insurance Coverage

The sports utility vehicle is quite expensive to purchase and maintain due to high fuel and insurance charges. The high-speed sports utility vehicles are quite risky to drive and the chances of their involvement in accident are high so the car owner has to buy heavy insurance premium policy to protect the car. You can compare car insurance premium prices online to get the best deal suitable for the vehicle.
HBF Car Insurance offers cheap comprehensive car insurance policies in Australia. Get a free car insurance quote and buy cheap car insurance online.

The auto insurance coverage offered for SUV differs in terms of charge and protective cover. The comprehensive car isnurnce coverage protects the SUV from damage caused by weather changes like fire, theft, hail, floods and tornado. The auto insurance coverage of comprehensive type can be lowered down by increasing the deductibles. It is good to keep your deductibles in low range to get the needed support from the insurance company in the event of any natural calamity. The collision coverage for SUV will protect you against any physical car damage either due to lamppost collide or with another vehicle.

This coverage is voluntary but the SUV owner must take it, as the high speed of the vehicle always risks the car collision and proper coverage will avoid hefty invoice of any car repair. The compulsive insurance cover for the car is liability coverage, which covers the damages caused by the vehicle to other people or to your possession. The damage caused to other people might leave them in lurch so the government has made the driver liable to pay off for the losses incurred.

While driving the SUV if damage is caused to you or anybody else vehicle, your insurance company will reimburse for the damage. The insurance provider of that SUV pays even the medical expenditure of anybody injured or hurt. The SUV owner with small liability will have to pay fewer premiums next year but if you have claimed high liability then you will be forced to pay high premium.

2011 Ferrari 599 GTO

Now available on www.ferrari.com are the first photos and information on the new 599 GTO, an extreme V12 berlinetta developed to a specific performance-oriented brief. The 599 GTO is, in fact, the company’s fastest ever road car. It is an exclusive limited edition special which, in true Ferrari tradition, is a completely new concept, albeit inspired by a production car. In fact the 599 GTO is based on the 599XX, the advanced experimental track car, and can be considered almost a road-going version.

The 599 GTO is reserved for just 599 clients who seek the maximum expression of high-performance driving. The 599 GTO benefits directly from the technological transfer from racing and set a record lap time at Fiorano in 1’24”.
The Fiorano lap time provides just one indication of the potential of this car. Just as significant are the technical specifications – 670 hp in a 1495kg car represents a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.23 kg/hp, and ensures a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.35” as well as a top speed of over 335 km/h.

Fundamental to the GTO’s performance is the innovative approach to chassis development which, for the first time on a production car, saw the integration between a handling set-up tuned for a level of responsiveness that is close to the limit and highly sophisticated electronic controls. The result is the almost complete absence of understeer and a truly communicative chassis.

As is Ferrari’s policy, every new Ferrari features new solutions for a road car. Thus the 599 GTO is equipped with the latest, second-generation carbon-ceramic brakes which are lighter and offer better performance, new aerodynamic innovations, such as the wheel doughnuts which increase aerodynamic efficiency as well as improve brake cooling, and the Supersport tyres developed by Michelin include a wider front tyre for greater roadholding. The driver-car interface is also new with the adoption of the Virtual Race Engineer (VRE) which provides the driver with instantaneous information on performance.

The 599 GTO’s more aggressive character is also apparent in a number of styling elements that recall the 599XX and from the powerful sound of the V12.

The GTO (Gran Turismo Omologata) moniker instantly calls to mind two Ferraris that have entered the collective imagination as symbols of performance. After the 1962 250 GTO, which swept the boards in GT racing categories in the 1960s and is now a highly prized collector’s car, came the iconic 1984 GTO, which basically invented the entire modern supercar genre.

The web special includes photos, videos and interviews on the new car, while an exclusive preview for a small number of Ferrari clients will be held on April 14th at the Military Academy in Modena. The public debut of the 599 GTO will instead be at the Beijing International Motor Show at the end of April.

Corvette Corvette Corvette Classic Stock Or Hot-Rodded?

Corvette Corvette Corvette Classic Stock Or Hot-Rodded?

Author: Harold Stofman

The introduction of the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray heralded major changes in the march onward in the Chevrolet Stingray. The Sting Ray was available as both a "Roadster "version with a removable hardtop and a "Coupe" sometimes referred to as a fastback.

Onwards from 1963 to 1967 the Sting Ray got even better with a greater number of options for both luxury and power performance. This was the heyday of the days of sports car customizers. And the Corvette Sting Ray was the perfect 100 % raw material for the sports car customizers. Headlights were molded and in and the bumpers were removed. So many Corvettes received an extra pair of taillights that people that they were actually a General Motors Chevrolet Corvette factory option. Later when the low profile wide tires came along, so did large fender flares. The speed equipment industry had boomed, so the majority of Corvette engine parts were being replaced by the latest: Hot Setup". Rochester fuel injectors were being removed because of service problems, and everyone heard that the single four barrel in a high riser manifold was better. In 1965 the first Chevy big-block was introduced in the Corvette, and the performance was more than awesome.

Another new body style - both larger and heavier was introduced in 1968. Many thought that this was the beginning of the decline of the Corvette, But in the vital performance department, the 427 cubic inches Rat Motor with its three two-barrel carbs and the 435 horse power ratings more than powered the Corvette legend of lore. No letting down of the powerful image of the 'Vette.

Things got even better right on up to the 1969 L-88with aluminum cylinder heads the 1970 LS-6 rated at a mighty 465 horse power rating. The word Corvette invokes the image of high performance sports car performance. An older age group replaced the street racer cult as the primary consumers and purchasers of the Vette. More and more of the Corvettes were equipped with such luxury and comfort options as air conditioning, power steering and telescoping steering columns. It was not long before the Corvette with emission devices and soon the real 'Vette type of performance was history.

What was more than interesting was the response original hot rodder modification group. The amazing part of all of this is how the circle came round. Karma sneaks in.

The same dedicated group of sport car enthusiasts and hot rodders, who modified the older, pre mainstream luxury comfort model Corvettes, is now the very ones who restore this same converted Corvette back to exact stock specifications.

How could these people justify the work and effort of taking these cars back in time to factory specs when a great amount of time, effort and cost had been invested in these very cars? A used Corvette at the time was essentially a very attractive sports car buy.

Why were restore cars in vogue and even preferred over the earlier modified ones. Partially it was a case of limited supply and very high prices being offered by the stock type Corvettes and classic car auctions and the prices being asked in the special car groups and publications. All in all it can be said it can be a combination of the custom cars getting old and needing refurbishing and the 55 mile speed limit in the time. Perhaps as well it was a question of maturity on the kids who were the Corvette hot rodders at the time. See the influence of time, life and having a family with its change of priorities can have on the wildest kids.

The Scorpion: A 40-MPG, 450-Horsepower Hydrogen-Powered Arachnid -- That Stings

scorpion-1.jpg

Okay it doesn't really sting, it's just a freaking car. Oh wait, maybe it does.

The Scorpion gets its sting from a hydrogen delivery system the company calls H2GO. While cars like the Honda FCX Clarity and Chevrolet Equinox use hydrogen fuel cells to drive electric motors, the Scorpion uses electrolysis to convert water into gaseous hydrogen. The hydrogen is mixed with 91-octane gasoline to improve the fuel economy and reduce the emissions of the car's 3.5-liter internal combustion engine.

Ronn Motors is confident that the sexy Scorpion will top 200 mph. The chrome-moly chassis and carbon-fiber body surrounds a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 in a car that weighs just 2,200 pounds. The engine was sourced from Acura -- it's the same mill found in the TL Type S, albeit turbocharged -- and mated to a six-speed gearbox. The car will set you back $150,000, and if 450 ponies isn't enough, another $100 grand will get you a tweaked version with another 150 horsepower.

Oh man. I want one. Badly. Really badly. Just imagine: you're cruising along in your Scorpion, when you decide to swing by the BK drive-thru for a #4 with a Coke. ZOMG I'm making myself moister than a towelette. Just kidding, I don't even know what that means. Or do I?

Hit the jump for a couple more worthwhile pictures.
