BMW Launches New BMW 5 Series Sedan in India @ Rs. 36 Lakh

It's a price war in the Indian market! No matter which car segment we talk about, every car maker has realised that the car price tag holds the key to Indian customer's heart. So if there is are low cost cars in the small car segment or Toyota launching entry level Etios in sedan segment, there is now a BMW 5-series model at Rs. 36 lakh.

The premium car segment in India is abuzz with better models at even more competitive price tag than earlier. BMW has launched another 520d model in India which is the fifth engine variant to join the F10 series for Indian market. The model is powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that delivers 184bhp @4000rpm mated with an 8-speed manual gearbox.

At present, the 5-Series range includes four variants, 525d, a more powerful 530d and two petrol variants: 523i and 535i. The current diesel BMW models have a 6 cylinder engine as opposed to the 520d’s in-line four which produces 185bhp.

BMW Launches Fascinating New BMW 520d Sedan In India

The country's second largest luxury car maker BMW has launched its fascinating BMW 520d in the Indian market. The new 520d comes powered by a 1995 cc 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that is capable of delivering a peak power of 184 bhp in combination with a peak torque of 350Nm. The new car comes mated with 8-speed automatic transmission which enables it to offer an impeccable performance on roads.

The new generation 5-series model carries a number of new features including 255/55 R 17 tyres, single Mp3 CD audio player in places of in-dash 6 CD changer music system, standard aux-in, USB port and Bluetooth interface etc. However, the cosmetic features of in this new car are same as available in the BMW 525d premium sedan. The BMW 520d car has been prices at Rs 36,90,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) which is as much as Rs 3 lakh cheaper than its elder sibling 525d premium sedan.

Performance wise, the new 520d leads the segment with good pick-up and acceleration characteristics. The car takes only 8.4 seconds to cross the speed barrier of 100 km/h. The five-seater 520d sedan has been made roomier as compared to its predecessor. While the boot space of the car is 520 liter, the wheelbase measures to 2888 mm. The car comes equipped with a range of safety and performance enhancing features that comprises of Halogen / Xenon lights, Navigation system, Manual Cruise Control, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, traction control and Stability control.

Meanwhile, the company has geared-up to launch its much awaited starting range luxury – BMW X1 - in the Indian market next month. The X1 model is expected to be rolled out in the price segment of Rs 20 to 25 lakh, and will be the cheapest BMW car in India.

BMW India Launches 535i, 523i & 530d, 525d: New 5 Series Petrol & Diesel Variants

The new BMW 5 Series was unveiled today at the exclusive BMW pavilion which has been specially constructed for the launch in India. The new BMW 5 Series is available in two petrol variants – 535i and 523i and two diesel variants – 530d and 525d and can be ordered at BMW dealerships across India.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Peter Kronschnabl, President, BMW India said, "The 5 Series is the core model in our product portfolio. Each generation of the BMW 5 Series has been a winner and has played a major role in the company's success around the world. And we intend to keep it that way in India. You can imagine what high expectations we have of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan: It has to live up to its highly successful predecessor both in terms of innovative technology and sales achievements."
"Splendid design, flawless workmanship, driver orientation with ideally placed instruments and intuitive operation, the new BMW 5 Series embodies a formula to captivate the senses. Ex-showroom price excludes RTO registration charges, tax, insurance, handling charges; Octroi and entry tax (as applicable). The above ex-showroom prices are exclusive of sales tax / VAT applicable on sale to the customer. Prices and options are subject to change without prior notice.

The 523i, 525d and 530d will be produced at the BMW Plant Chennai. The 535i will be available as a CBU (completely built-up unit) and will have an ex-showroom price of INR 58,00,000. The new BMW 5 Series will be available in Alpine White as non-metallic paintwork and in the following metallic colours: Space Grey, Titanium Silver, Black Sapphire, Havanna, Cashmere Silver, Deep Sea Blue, Milano Beige, Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect and Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect.

Dakota leather is the standard upholstery for the new BMW 5 Series and is available in the following colour combinations: Oyster / Black, Black / Black, Vento Beige / Vento Beige, Oyster / Oyster dark and Cinnamon Brown / Black. The following interior trims are available: Fine-wood trim Ash Grain Brown and Fine-wood trim "Fine line" anthracite.

The latest generation of straight-six diesels featuring an all-aluminium crankcase and common-rail direct injection develop 180 kW/245 hp in BMW 530d and 150 kW/204 hp in BMW 525d.

New BMW 5-series & BMW X1 Coming to India Soon

BMW is planning to launch BMW 5-series and BMW X1 in India by the second half of 2010. As per the news from sources that BMW 5-series will launch from July this year & X1 launch in December.

Both BMW 5-series and BMW X1 are launched in European market in 2009. New BMW 5-series and BMW X1 will be assembled at the BMW's Chennai plant for which the company will increase its production capacity as well. Indian luxury car buyers will get better options after the launch of this 2 new BMW cars. "The new 5 series in completely knocked down (CKD) version will be available for Indian customers by July 2010." said BMW India's President Peter Kronschnabl at a press conference in Munich.

Kronschnabl confirmed that the new BMW X1 model will available for the Indian customers from December 2010. Both the models will be imported and will be assembled at its Chennai plant. "Though we haven’t yet started bookings, we have got a phenomenal response from the customer survey in India for both the models." he added further.

BMW expects a good growth from Indian automobile market.

BMW India Launched 2 New Variants of BMW 3 Series Sedan

BMW India launched two new variants of the best selling BMW 3 Series Sedan: the new BMW 320d Corporate Edition (Diesel) and the new BMW 330i (Petrol). The new cars will be available at BMW India dealerships across India from 25 February 2010 onwards.

Speaking on the occasion, Peter Kronschnabl, President, BMW India said, "We are proud to expand the BMW 3 Series portfolio in India in both diesel and petrol variants. The BMW 330i boasts an in-line six-cylinder petrol engine with High Precision Injection featuring a lightweight magnesium/aluminum alloy crankcase. It powers the saloon from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. BMW petrol engines with High Precision Injection and lean-burn combustion deliver fuel exactly where it is needed. The BMW 330i features a 2996cc six-cylinder engine with the maximum output of 190kW at 6600 RPM and maximum torque of 300Nm at 2500-4000 RPM.

The BMW 320d's four-cylinder diesel engine with an all aluminium crankcase and third-generation common-rail direct injection also features variable inlet valves and high-pressure fuel injection. The common-rail system separates pressure generation and fuel injection, with electronically controlled injectors delivering the fuel to the cylinders. Third-generation common rail operates at pressures of up to 2000 bars and is therefore more precise in the amount and delivery of fuel injected. The BMW 320d features a 1995 cc four-cylinder engine with the maximum output of 130kW at 4000 RPM and maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1750-3000 RPM.
