2011 Chevrolet Camaro Sport Car

It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t like sports cars. While other cars are about mundane tasks like getting to work, hauling cargo, and moving the family around, sports cars are all about the open road.
But while everyone likes sports cars (or at least likes the idea of owning one), they are not for everyone. Sports cars give buyers incredible performance, high style, and in some cases, a significant dose of luxury. But they also cost more than some more practical cars, lack useable cargo and passenger space, and have rides that can be too rough for some owners.
For sports car buyers, the driving thrills and the intangible cachet that comes from owning a sports car more than makes up for any drawbacks. If you’re considering a sports car, there are a few things you need to know before you start shopping.
What’s a Sports Car?
Simply put, a sports car is a car designed to put performance before all other tasks. While you can use a sports car as a daily driver (and many people do), sports cars aren’t meant for running errands or carrying car seats. They’re built with racing and enthusiast drivers in mind. As a result, sports cars tend to have higher-grade parts than family sedans. Engines are tuned to produce more power; various components may use alternative materials, such as aluminum or carbon fiber, to lessen weight; and brakes and other components are beefed up to take the punishing kind of driving sports cars are meant for. Because of the changes, sports cars tend to be more expensive than your average sedan or hatchback. Sports cars usually have a coupe body style because this kind of design provides more structural rigidity and better performance. However, many sports cars also have convertible versions.  Other types of cars also have performance versions that could be considered sports cars, even though they may be sedans, hatchbacks or even SUVs.
Types of Sports Cars
Sports cars run the gamut from cars that try to balance budget and fun to high-end exotics that cost more than most people’s houses. Within the price ranges there are distinct sports car types as well.  A traditional sports car balances engine power with agile and adept handling. This makes them capable both on curvy roads and track surfaces. A subset of sports cars is muscle cars. Muscle cars tip the performance equation in the other direction: they’re all about straight-line power, not attacking turns.
As a class, sports cars have the most varied architecture you’ll see on the automotive market. Some have their engines in the front like all other sedans, SUVs, trucks and hatchbacks. Others have a mid-mounted engine. That’s when the engine sits just behind the driver and passenger, between the two axels. Still others have a rear-mounted engine, which sits just above the rear wheels. A front-mounted engine will give you a sports car that handles similarly to, but better than, most other cars you’ve driven.  A mid-mounted engine produces very balanced handling. Because the engine is the heaviest component of the car, putting it between the axels makes the car more stable and secure as it attacks turns. Putting the engine in the rear makes the car handle differently from almost every other car on the road. While few sports cars do this, if you’re looking at one, know that it will take some practice to get used to driving.
Sports Cars and Safety
It may seem that sports cars are less safe than other cars on the road, but when you get down to it, that’s not entirely true. Sports cars do tend to be smaller and lighter than other cars, but manufacturers have put the same safety equipment into sports cars as they do in their other models. The difference is the way sports cars tend to be driven. Sports cars are meant to be driven fast, but the faster you go, the more risks you take on. Driving a sports car safely means knowing your limits and the limits of the car.  More importantly, it means driving your car all out only when it’s appropriate -- not on open roads, but on a closed track.
Practical Sports Cars
Sports cars are less practical than other cars. Their designs don’t leave a lot for space for passengers and cargo. Most sports cars only have two seats. And if they do have a rear seat, it tends to be small and uncomfortable.
You can get the practicality you need without sacrificing the performance you want by going for a performance car. Many carmakers turn out performance-tuned variants of their mainstream models. BMW is known for its M (for Motorsports) designation on its sedans and SUVs, while Mercedes-Benz has its AMG line and Audi has its S line. Though performance cars tend to be much more expensive than their non-performance-oriented counterparts, they use sports-car components and are tuned for thrills.

Buying a Sports Car
Now that you’ve got the basics of what makes a sports car and what you might want to look for in one, dig deeper. We’ve created this guide to help you find the best sports car for you, whether your main priority is safety, looking good, performance or just fitting your golf clubs in the back.

2010 Camaro Ss Blak

GeigerCars 2010 Camaro SS Compressor

Using their car tuning expertise, GeigerCars has tuned the all new 2010 Camaro SS Compressor to complete the trio of legendary muslce cars. The have already customized the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang, so why not modify the new aggressive looking Chevy Camaro SS. Tuning the base model Camaro SS, GeigerCars German engineering chose to increase the performance numbers of the 6.2-liter V8 that boasts 432 horsepower. One of GeigerCars specialties is their high performance supercharger kit, so they installed just that for the 2010 Camaro SS Compressor. By using the mechanical compressor, engine output was increased to 568 hp and 799 ft-lbs of torque with the supercharging kit installed, and also a high flow exhaust system that includes new catalysts and mufflers.

To handle the extra power numbers, a twin-plate performance clutch was fitted for the 6-speed manual transmission. GeigerCars reduced the end gear ratio on the 2010 Camaro, which allows it to reach 195 mph. Aiming to keep the car under control at these high speeds, a strong braking system was installed along with coilovers, and an adjustable sports anti-roll bar for the front and rear axles. The high performance braking system consists of 6-piston calipers with slotted 380 mm brake discs in the front, and 4-piston calipers with 355 mm brake discs in the rear. Topping it all off from GeigersCars are 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 295 mm tires in the rear, and 265 mm tires up front.

Approaches to Camaro Restoration

Approaches to Camaro Restoration

Author: Terry Newman

All restoration is not the same. There are progressive levels of quality that can be achieved in Camaro Restoration or in restoring any classic vehicle, and they are based primarily on how much time and money you can put in. Keep this in mind if you're looking to buy a restored classic. Some will be far better than others. If you are restoring one then give it the best you've got.

There is, of course, the cheap way, which appeals to lots of folks for the obvious reason: it's cheaper than other ways. The cheap way is to give a cosmetic make-over by doing some quick body work, giving it a paint job, and giving the engine a once-over with a little cleaning and painting. Those who choose this method are generally trying to make a fast buck or just don't have the money or time to do a good job. You can make an engine look good without rebuilding it, but all you have is a dressed up old engine. Low-quality body work usually comes back to haunt you later on, since it won't stand the test of time. Also there are problems with keeping old parts intact as they are already living on borrowed time, since most of the classics are thirty to forty years old. So the cosmetic makeover won't take you very far down the road (so to speak.)

One approach that's more affordable than a full restoration is the "frame up" restoration. This will include mostly work on the body, engine, and interior. The frame is given only a once-over to replace badly worn parts, such as brake lines. This approach cuts corners where the frame is concerned, but does give a good look and makes the vehicle relatively "highway-safe."

To go a little further in the restoration level would require a body off restoration, where the body is removed from the frame. This gives greater access to the frame and the floor pan as well as allowing for the replacement of nuts and bolts. The frame can be taken apart and sand-blasted, the exhaust system replaced, along with all the the suspension parts, ball joints and tie rod ends. The trunk and interior are restored to like-new condition and the engine can be rebuilt.

The Rotisserie method can be used for many of the classic vehicles with the unibody style of body. With this type of body the subframe and rear end can be removed allowing the body to be placed on a "rotisserie" arrangement. The vehicle can be turned to give access to any area that needs to be worked on. The Rotisserie method allows for best access to all areas so the highest amount of restoration can be achieved.

The Story of the Chevrolet Camaro

The Story of the Chevrolet Camaro

Author: Jake Dean

The Chevrolet Camaro first hit the market in the USA in 1966. General Motors, Chevrolet's owners, had to build a vehicle to provide much needed competition to the sector dominating Ford Mustang. The 1967 Camaro shared a frame and many main components with the Pontiac Firebird (one more General Motors project), and so the speed and money required to make the car were greatly reduced.

Called a a muscle car, or a 'Pony' vehicle, a name which referred to small cars that were both affordable and had a sports feel about their styling (a trend started by the Ford Mustang in 1964), the Camaro lined up next to an ever growing pool of cars that were fighting for an ever growing market. US buyers loved the engine, the styling and the low cost of such vehicles and the growing sales guaranteed that many manufacturers built their own variations out as quickly they could.
The 1970's and 80's saw the Camaro's height, when the Camaro was dreamed of by millions of car enthusiasts, not only in the USA but across the world. The balance of looks, speed and popular TV shows using pony cars contributed to a strong market, and the desire for buyers to own one never disappeared.
There were five individual generations of the car have been built. Generations one to four were developed between 1966 and 2002 (when selling of the Camaro and Firebird both ceased), and development of the fifth generation Camaro started again in 2009 and despite opposition to these environmentally unfriendly muscle vehicles from green campaigners, the Camaro has proved itself to once again be a big success with the North American public.
The car has a large group of fans with some owners having owned every version of the car at one time or another and others hanging on to original 1960's versions and keeping them in perfect condition.
The Camaro has been a favourite vehicle for improving through the cars lifetime, with owners spending time and cash adding aftermarket additions to improve their Camaro's style and power. Camaro's have been hugely strong in racing winning many Trans-Am series wins and lots other races and championships through its lifetime. Many racers still use older Camaro's these days and are still successful, often winning when against much more modern race cars.
The Camaro is still going strong today, and with its legendary status, power and eye catching looks from the fifth model, the Camaro is bound to be with us for many years to come.
