The 2006 BMW M6: BMW Performance Parts, Aftermarket Parts


The all-new M6 features weight-saving technologies such as a carbon-fiber roof and 19-inch forged aluminum wheels that are almost four pounds lighter than regular cast wheels. With almost 500 horsepower available, BMW claims the M6 will hit 60 mph in under 4.6 seconds, and it will run to 20 5mph without the traditional 155-mph speed limiter. The suspension, though similar to that of the M5, is specially tuned to take advantage of the M6's shorter wheelbase and lower center of gravity. Massive cross-drilled brakes enable the M6 to pull up from 60 mph in less than 118 feet.

It is the most powerful 6 Series yet to be produced as it shares its power unit with the recently released M5. Acceleration is from 0-100 km/h comes in 4.6 seconds and the M6 reaches 200 km/h about 14 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h. It has a 5-litre V10 engine with a power output of 373 kW at 7 750 r/min, while torque is 520 Nm at 6 100 r/min. In city driving where not much power is needed, the BMW M6 automatically sets off in its comfort-oriented P400 performance program with 296 kW (400 bhp) engine output. The V10 power unit requires roughly twice as much cooling air as the V8 in the BMW 645Ci. The V10 is indeed the most demanding engine in technical terms. BMW’s high-speed engine concept allows an optimum gearbox and final drive transmission ratio. The two five-cylinder banks in the V10 are arranged at an angle of 90° in order to optimize the standard of vibration control and motoring comfort offered by full mass compensation on the crank drive. Taking the substantial forces of the combustion process, high engine speeds and vibrations into account, the crankcase comes in bedplate design. The extremely stiff crankshaft, in turn, runs in six bearings.




The engine control unit is ionic current technology serving to detect any tendency of the engine to knock, misfire and suffer mis-combustion. BMW’s seven-speed SMG transmission is precisely the right manual gearbox for conveying the power of the V10 via the drivetrain to the rear wheels. This gearbox from BMW M is indeed the world’s only sequential transmission with seven gears and Drivelogic. With qualities even greater than on a six-speed SMG gearbox, this transmission allows manual selection of gears with extremely short gearshift times as well as comfortable cruising qualities thanks to the automatic gear selection function.

The M6’s engine electronics is one of the most advanced engine control systems ever developed. The MS S65 control unit coordinates all engine functions using three 32-bit processors that handle more than 200 million operations per second from over 50 incoming signals. Each of the 10 cylinders has its own throttle butterfly, with its position being monitored 200 times per second.

The variable, speed-sensing M Differential Lock gives the M6 superior driving stability and optimum traction particularly when accelerating out of a bend. The 19-inch forged aluminum wheels developed especially for the M6, together with their five filigree double spokes, are extremely light and provide a very good view of the large brake discs.

2008 BMW M3 Coupe Officially Revealed (35 Pics)

What else is there to say? BMW has unveiled the production version of the 2008 M3 Coupe. Its 403 horsepower and V8 weighs less than the outgoing M3's six-cylinder, and it goes like stink, all while cocooning the driver in the expected level of luxury. What is so cool about this 2008 BMW M3: regenerative braking provides the power to the car's on-board network. That was cool. Check it out man. This is also my dreams car besides 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500.

BMW M-Series

What is a sports car? There have already been quite a few personal definitions to what a sports car sounds to them. However, for most people, a sports car is a BMW.



BMW now adds up yet another product to their still growing family of vehicles. And right now, the new addition is the 2006 BMW M. It is a roadster. And it just goes to show that BMW meant business for this car. Its past shows a colorful BMW tradition as well as an in-depth research before it was actually constructed. As per the other one, it is an independent rear suspension with dampers, semi-trailing arms, coil springs, and anti-roll bars.

How large is the BMW M? It measures some 96.8 inches for its wheelbase. Its rear is 55.0 inches. It has a curb weight of 3084 pounds, plus a fuel capacity of 13.5 gallons. If you want to put in some cargo, you can always do so for it has a meager cargo capacity of 5.1 cubic feet.

The steering of this roadster is a rack and pinion one with variable ratio and is variable power assisted. It has a turning circle of 34.1 feet. The brakes are vented discs for both the front and the rear. There is also the anti lock braking system. As per the wheels and tires of this vehicle, the BMW M comes equipped with 17 x 7.5 inches front and 17 x 9.0 inches rear cast aluminum wheels. There also are 225/45ZR-17 tires for the front and 245/40ZR-17 tires for the rear. These are both Michelin Pilot SX MXX3 tires.

BMW and Mercedes are locked in a pitched battle for the right to call themselves the top luxury automotive brand in the world. With Lexus making inroads, neither make can afford a misstep. A pitched battle in autodom continues to gather force pitting German automaker against German automaker. Legendary Mercedes-Benz is taking on heralded BMW for the right to call themselves the top selling luxury brand in the world. Not far behind the two is Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, but for now the battle remains a fight between these two German automakers.

For luxury car enthusiasts, the BMW-Mercedes rivalry has been a win-win battle as both automakers have been pouring engineering funds into their vehicles. Neither automaker is resting on their past achievements; instead both are pressing forward to add the latest safety features including Mercedes’ Night Vision Assist and BMW’s impact absorbing bumpers which absorb stronger impacts without damaging the vehicle’s main body. Safety is one of the chief concerns for consumers when selecting a particular luxury brand according to all of the leading automotive industry surveys.

For BMW, its latest automotive project has been a closely guarded secret until very recently. Camouflaged spy shots of the all new BMW M3 have been circulating on the internet for some time now but only since June has a pre-production version of a fully unclothed BMW M3 been spotted. It was seen navigating the twisting roads of Southern California according to The Car Connection, the vehicle information and shopping site.

For BMW enthusiasts, news of a BMW M3 pre-production sighting means one thing: BMW will soon announce the date in 2007 when its latest M Series car will be available in dealer showrooms.

Right now, the current BMW M3 is still based on the fourth generation 3 Series which was replaced in 2006. The new BMW M3 will be based on the latest generation body frame and feature some notable improvements over the previous BMW M3 model including:

A larger, more potent V8 engine with an output of 400 horses. Currently, the BMW M3 features an inline six engine with a 333 horsepower output. The new model is expected to rocket from start to 60 in under 5 seconds, topping out at 155 mph.......



A six or possibly seven speed manual transmission.

A longer wheelbase for better weight distribution.

Styling cues from the BMW M3 will find its way to the new model from front wing vents to twin exit exhausts along with the ubiquitous M series recognized emblems.

For Mercedes enthusiasts they can point to the soon to be released 2007 C Class, which is the direct competitor for the BMW 3 Series, as evidence that DaimlerChrysler will not let BMW out of its crosshairs anytime soon. A new AMG [motorsport] version of the C Class will follow, ratcheting up what is certain to a pitched battle to be enjoyed by compact luxury car devotees worldwide.

Additional competitors to the BMW M3 include the Cadillac CTS-V, the Audi RS4, and the Lexus IS. Prices have not been set for the new M3, but they can be expected to top out at around $60,000 fully equipped.

The Evolution Of BMW M3

The BMW M3 is a high performance edition of the popular compact car BMW 3-series automobile, made by BMW. The first day operating a BMW M3 can be a bit challenging, but hold on and adjust, since the payoff is worth it.

E30

This is the earliest version of the BMW M3. Essentially as we know, the standard design of the M3, which is the sports version of the popular compact BMW 3 Series, was introduced here. The M badge carried not only the nature of this automobile being powerful, but also being stylish.

The power train was the 2.3 liters S14 engine, derived from the M10's inline-4 block, and the valve train and head architecture from BMWs notable but then historical M1 and later the singular M6's inline-6 cylinder. The first car resulted in 195 hp, then further retooled to 215 hp, and then to 238 hp.

The BMW M3 was initially fitted with a firmer and more aerodynamic body shell in addition to "box flared" fenders, which only the M6 had. This was basically to accommodate a wider track with bigger wheels and tires, which was typical of a muscle car.

People tend not to give much thought about the BMW M3 catalytic converter, nevertheless when it comes to the environment, it's one of the vehicle's most significant components. The BMW M3 is the most powerful M3 that BMW have produced this far and because of the environmental movement and recent down sizing movement possibly the most powerful that will be made until we have more environmental friendly choices to power our cars.

E36

After 6 years this version of the BMW M3 was ushered in. This E36 coupe model got the 3.0 liters straight-6 engine, which created 286 hp. Four years later, this was increased to a higher power train of 321 hp, which was derived from a new 3.2 liters. As an alternative, a new SMG gearbox was integrated. Named as one of the best models manufactured, this car is still available.

Drivers of the race-bred BMW M3 can also orient the car's manner and performance because of the Mdrive, which is placed on the steering wheel for quick access to the vehicle setup kept in the Mdrive menu. The highly dynamic driving experience of the new BMW M3 is the outcome of the 50/50 front-rear weight distribution, rear wheel drive, recently designed chassis with specific, weight-optimized components, distinctive BMW M axle kinematics, forged aluminum track control arms, complex high-performance brake system and electronic damper control (edc).

E46

This is the most recent version of the BMW M3. The principal batch of the E46 BMW M3 came in Laguna Seca Blue, with a more current SMG Drivelogic or the SMG II, producing a power of 343 hp. The M3 is also lower in gross weight than it past models. One of the reasons for this low weight is that the newer BMW M3 is the first production car in its industry segment to feature a roof constructed of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFP).
