Maruti Suzuki Five CNG Models Launched in India: Price Rs. 3.23 to 7.47 Lakhs Range

The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki today unveiled its flagship CNG engine technology, 'intelligent-Gas Port Injection' or i-GPI on five popular models. The CNG vehicles were unveiled by Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) Environment and Forests in the presence of senior government dignitaries and Maruti Suzuki management team. The models include SX4, Eeco, WagonR, Estilo and Alto and are being launched in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Gujrat. With this initiative, the CNG footprint of the company spreads across entry level cars, compact cars, sedans and MPV segments.

On the occasion, Maruti Suzuki India Chairman RC Bhargava said, "We are happy to bring contemporary CNG technology to the Indian customer. We are confident customers would value our i-GPI technology that is safe, reliable, clean, responsive and environment friendly. Adapting the CNG technology in our vehicles is another step to keep low cost of ownership for our customers."

Shinzo Nakanishi Managing Director & CEO Maruti Suzuki India said, "The development is significant on multiple counts. This is the first instance when a car manufacturer has developed and launched factory-fitted technologically superior CNG engines in India. Compressed Natural Gas is environment friendly and also reduce country's dependence on imported fuels. Maruti Suzuki's big ticket entry into CNG fuel segment augurs well for the environment."

Peppy & Responsive 'Intelligent-GPI Technology'
The i-GPI or Intelligent Gas Port Injection bi-fuel technology offers an intelligent ride. Intelligent as it ensures more power vis-à-vis retro-fitted CNG vehicles and offers a peppier ride experience at par with that of a petrol-fuelled engine, while achieving high fuel efficiency at the same time. The factory fitted CNG vehicles score very high on safety and reliability vis-à-vis the aftermarket retro-fitted options. Maruti Suzuki CNG vehicles pass through all the quality checks, processes and systems similar to a regular car manufactured at Maruti Suzuki plants.

Service Support Across The Country:
As the CNG technology is factory fitted the customers will enjoy the full warranty benefits including extended warranty. To top it all, the CNG vehicles from Maruti Suzuki will enjoy the nationwide back up of over 2700 Maruti Service Stations.

The simultaneous launch of five CNG vehicles with the same contemporary technology demonstrates the company's intent and future readiness to produce environmentally friendly vehicles in large numbers.

Steps in Environment Care:
Maruti Suzuki has the distinction of introducing a host of environment friendly programmes ahead of government regulations and the industry. This includes implementing End of Life Vehicle (ELV) programme ¿ where harmful elements like Lead, Cadmium, Chromium and Mercury are not used in making vehicles. Maruti Suzuki produced the first BS-IV and E-10 compliant engines much ahead of regulations coming to force in the country. Developing a factory-fitted CNG engine is another effort by the Company to contribute to a clean environment.

Technology Up:
The factory fitted CNG vehicles use advanced Intelligent Gas Port Injection technology. Maruti Suzuki R&D team has integrated this technology with the Company's range of engines and products to bring the benefits to the consumers.

In a leap over alternative aftermarket options, the i-GPI technology is a Dual ECU (Engine Control Unit) technology. This highly reliable system delivers accurate amounts of gas to the engine thus ensuring improved and consistent performance under various driving conditions.

The i-GPI technology uses separate injectors for each cylinder. Based on inputs from the ECU, metered CNG quantity is injected to the engine through gas ports. The quantity of CNG required for different driving conditions is controlled by the dedicated ECU, leading to more efficient fuel usage. Similar to the usual pre-launch evaluation, each of the cars with i-GPI CNG technology has been extensively tested for around 2 lakh kilometers in varied terrains. In addition, over 3,000 hours of bench tests have validated the design and performance to bring unmatchable combination of performance and reliability for the customers.

While working on the new CNG technology, Maruti Suzuki engineers focused on critical aspects of safety, reliability and performance.

CNG For The Future:
Government of India has committed to developing the infrastructure and network of the CNG stations across the country. This is in line with government's aim to reduce the dependence on import of fossil fuels. With the discovery of large gas reserves in the country the network of CNG supplies is set to expand rapidly in near future. Maruti Suzuki's launch of CNG technology vehicles will help create the eco system for use of a clean and cost effective fuel in India.

The Ex-showroom Delhi price (Rs Lakh) of Maruti Suzuki CNG Vehicles is as Under:
Maruti Alto Lxi CNG Price - Rs. 3.23 Lakh
Maruti Eeco CNG 5-seater Ac Price - Rs.3.64 Lakh
Maruti SX4 Vxi CNG Price - Rs. 7.47 Lakh

Maruti Swift Car India: Maruti Sells 4.5 Lakh Maruti Swift Cars in 5 Years

Maruti Suzuki Swift, the brand that has transformed the Indian car landscape, turns five tomorrow. The Maruti Swift was launched in India on May 25, 2005. The car seemed destined to succeed from the day it was born. Nearly 16,000 customers had placed advance orders for the Maruti Swift even before it was unveiled and its price made public. It won a bagful of awards that year, including all the car-of-the-year awards in India.

The international editions of Maruti Swift similarly won awards in markets across the world. In these five years, more than 4.5 lakh Maruti Swift cars have been sold in India.

In the early days of the brand, nearly 5,000 Maruti Swift cars were produced every month; an ambitious number for a car in that segment. In these five years, the Company has had to regularly scale up capacity and production to meet unmet demand for brand Swift.

Today, driven by customer demand, Maruti Suzuki manufactures over 12,000 Swift cars in a month (including the diesel versions).

Maruti Swift: New Design Philosophy
The Swift is a landmark model for many reasons. As Suzuki Motor Corporation’s first World Strategic Model, it ushered in the new design philosophy of the Japanese small car giant. Bold, aggressive, distinctly European, sporty and curvy, it was unlike anything that Suzuki had offered until then. When Maruti Suzuki launched the Swift in India, it was instantly appreciated by Indian customers.

The same sporty and dynamic design philosophy is evident in the subsequent four World Strategic Models – Grand Vitara, SX4, Ritz and A-star – that Maruti Suzuki has launched since then.

Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales), Mayank Pareek said, “The Swift has captured the imagination of Gen-next. It symbolises Maruti Suzuki’s efforts to be in step with a changing India. Its sporty styling and peppy performance made it an instant hit, and these attributes remain unsurpassed even today.”

Maruti Swift: The Indian story
The Swift is also special because this was the first time when Maruti Suzuki engineers worked in collaboration with Suzuki engineers in Japan to design and develop this car. Thus, the Swift launched in India was a global model, sensitive to requirements of Indian customers.
The knowledge and exposure gained with the Swift enhanced the R & D capability of Maruti Suzuki, and enabled the Company to launch more India-sensitive models and face lifts in these last five years.

Maruti Swift: Defining a New Segment
Five years ago, it was hard to conceive that customers of small cars in India would be willing to pay a premium for a small car. The Swift successfully challenged that perception and defined what is now popularly known as the premium A2 segment of the Indian car industry.

Maruti Swift and the New India:
Part of the reason for Swift’s success is that its journey coincided with a transforming India. In the last five years, customers have become more assertive, aware and demanding. They seek the best the world has to offer, while retaining ‘Indian’ values of reliability, fuel efficiency and low cost of ownership. The Swift has successfully balanced these demands.

The Maruti Swift Diesel:
Brand Swift’s defining role is extended to the diesel segment as well. Launched in January 2007, it was instantly lapped up by customers who sought refinement and performance alongside the fuel economy of diesel. With the DDiS engine (Europe’s Engine of the Year 2005), the Swift Diesel marked Maruti Suzuki’s re-entry into the diesel car market.

The Cult car:
Over the years, customers have conferred an iconic status to brand Swift. Little wonder that the Swift Life online Community is fast gaining popularity. The passionate Swift customers engage among themselves and with their favourite brand online and offline.

Maruti Swift and World Record:
As a part of Swift’s birthday celebrations and to commemorate the landmark, on Sunday, May 30, Maruti Suzuki will attempt to set a new World Record by bringing together the largest gathering of Swift cars in three cities – Delhi NCR at Gurgaon, Mumbai and Sriperumbudur at Chennai – simultaneously. This will be a first-of-its kind attempt in India and of its size anywhere in the world.

A snapshot of Maruti Swift's sterling performance:
1st One lakh units in under 21 months
2nd One lakh units in under 13 months, fastest 2 lakh units sales among all cars
3rd One lakh units in under 11 months, fastest 3 lakh units sales among all cars
4th One lakh units in under 11 months
Only car in A2 + segment to achieve over 1 lakh unit sales per year consecutively for last two years.

As per the ARAI certified fuel efficiency, the Swift Diesel with its compact 1.3 litre DDiS engine delivers 21 kmpl, while the Swift Petrol with next generation K Series 1.2 litre engine has a fuel efficiency of 17.94 kmpl.

The new WagonR is also wider and taller; the new dimensions are 1,495 mm and 1,700 mm, respectively.

New Maruti WagonRThe new WagonR joins the Maruti Suzuki range of five vehicles in the ever-growing A2 segment. Thanks to this wide choice of vehicles, Maruti Suzuki commands a staggering over 56 per cent in the A2 segment.

On the occasion, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, "The all-new WagonR carries forward the decade-long leadership and success of the WagonR brand. The new WagonR is a full-model change in terms of superior technology, interiors, looks and styling. The new, larger platform brings in comfort and space while the superior technology of K-series engine delivers more power, greater fuel efficiency and is environment friendly. We are confident that the new WagonR will further strengthen the leadership position of Maruti Suzuki in the A2 segment."

Superior K-Series Engine:
At the heart of the new WagonR is a 998cc three-cylinder K-series engine. This engine delivers a power of 68PS @ 6200rpm and a high torque of 90Nm @ 3500 rpm. With increased power, the new WagonR delivers increased fuel efficiency too - at 18.9 kilometers per litre, amongst the best in mid-A2 segment cars.

Improved Transmission:
The new WagonR comes with a new 5-speed synchromesh transmission technology that incorporates numerous innovations to enhance the power and pleasure combination. The new transmission is equipped with precise gear shift mechanism. This reduces the gear shifting effort due to minimal mechanical losses. The gear ratios in the transmission in the new WagonR are optimized to enhance drivability and improved fuel economy. A reduced clutch-pedal peak-load helps to improve the city driving experience.

Spacious and Convenient:
The tall boy design and best-in-class adjustable front seats are especially convenient for tall people. With a large wheel base that leads to best-in-class leg space at the rear, the new WagonR seats five people in great comfort with ample leg room and shoulder room. Alongside, the larger doors with wide opening make entry and exit easy, while optimised cushion depth and width on the rear seats increase seating comfort. Wide windscreen ensures uninterrupted panoramic view and adds to the light-filled-spacious-cabin-feel.

All this clubbed with the gigantic boot space makes the new WagonR a perfect smart-family vehicle. While the rear parcel tray improves storage and keeps the users' valuables hidden from prying eyes, a smart integrated tool box in the boot leads to the overall charm.

Storage space gets special attention in the new WagonR. As a unique feature, a handy shopping tray is fitted under front passenger seat. To safeguard the cell-phone camera unit, a soft insert has been introduced to the floor console. These apart, there are useful alcoves on the front console and door sides, a utility hook on the IP, and a 60:40 split rear seat add to user convenience. Two retractable cup/can holders on the driver's and the co-driver's side, and a bottle holder in the centre console add convenience and lead to user delight.

Stylish:
Brand WagonR has been the undisputed leader in its segment for over a decade now. To commemorate the brand's success, the new WagonR - pegged as the 'blue-eyed boy' of the great Indian family - has been styled with a distinctive blue tinge on its head lamps, which is a first-of-its-kind OE feature for A2 segment cars in India. This feature and a classic chrome-engraved 'WagonR' badge on the rear door together celebrate the brand's success with over eight lakh proud WagonR owners.

The new WagonR's aggressive front - bigger and sweeping lamps, wider bumpers that stretch to the corners and flared fenders - coupled with a slanted roof and aerodynamic exteriors impart a forceful, ready-to-go feel.

The deluxe interiors come with soft and subtle blue-silver interior theme, while the dash-integrated music system with AUX-in and 6 band graphic equalizer gives a new age touch.

Safety:
The new WagonR is high on occupant safety. A rigid cage structure technology alongwith increased frontal impact absorbing area, thanks to greater distance between steering wheel and front bumper, keep the passengers safe. The Vxi variant in the new WagonR is equipped with front and rear fog lamps, rear wiper and washer, rear defogger, dual horn and comes with safety features such as Airbag and ABS as options. A driver-side seat belt indicator is on the dash panel a standard feature on Lxi and Vxi variants. The new WagonR keys are integrated with i-CATS, 4-door central locking and anti-theft alarm system.

A Comforting Ride:
The new WagonR comes equipped with a new L-shaped front suspension frame for an enhanced ride comfort. This fine-tuned 3-point suspension is congruous to Indian roads and driving conditions, providing soft relaxed rides along with dynamic handling and lower NVH.

The new design steering wheel can be tilted to suit driver's driving comfort, while the ergonomically designed gear shift knob snugly fits into the driver's palm. Other features include electrically controlled outside rear view mirror. With snug interiors and improved HVAC design, the new Wagon R brings in superior cooling comfort.

A tight turning radius of 4.6 meters makes the new WagonR a favoured drive in peak traffic conditions and tight parking spots. Tubeless tyres, as a standard fitment on the new WagonR, and a ground clearance of 165 mm ensure ride comfort.

Environment Friendly:
The new WagonR is BSIV compliant, ELV compliant and E10 compliant. With the new WagonR, Maruti Suzuki is steadily moving towards the goal of making its full range of vehicles environment friendly, much ahead of the norms being adopting in the country.
