THE WING IS BACK!
SUBARU DEBUTS NEW 4-DOOR IMPREZA WRX STI MODEL FOR 2011

  • First Time Subaru Performance Flagship Offered in Two Body Styles

  • New WRX STI Four-Door with Wide-Body Design

  • Retuned Suspension for Even Sharper Handling

Subaru of America introduced a new 4-door version of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI performance flagship model. This will be the first time that the Subaru Impreza WRX STI has been offered in two body styles (5-door and 4-door). In addition to the new styling, the 2011 WRX STI features significantly revised suspension tuning and lighter 18-inch wheels for even sharper handling.
The Subaru Impreza WRX STI has been a recipient of continuous improvement since its introduction. Most recently, the 2010 WRX STI Special Edition previewed some of the suspension enhancements now migrated to the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Thorough and painstakingly detailed chassis development, including testing on Germany's famed Nurburgring racetrack, has resulted in the best-handling Impreza WRX STI models Subaru has ever offered.
"The continuous evolution and development of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI is driven by the strong, loyal and vocal support from thousands of enthusiastic owners of this exciting high-performance vehicle," said Tom Doll, executive vice president and COO of Subaru of America, Inc. "The 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI 4-door will expand the appeal of this iconic performance model to a wider range of driving enthusiasts."
New Designs for 2011
In front, the 2011 WRX STI models feature sharpened bumper corners and wider, blacked-out fog lamp nacelles to accentuate the "wide and low" profile. A jutting lip spoiler with three-dimensional detailing emphasizes the cars' sporty intent. The newly designed front grille with black base and blacked-out Subaru wing highlights the headlights' shape to give the entire front end a more powerful appearance, accentuated by larger grille and bumper intake openings.
For the 4-door models, newly designed wider rear fenders are stretched out on the side beyond the tail lamps, accentuating a look of power and stability. The new design details contribute to an improved drag coefficient.
New Chassis Tuning for 2011
The Subaru Impreza WRX STI was already a highly optimized performance machine. Specific chassis tuning. Aluminum front lower L-arms reduce unsprung vehicle weight. Major chassis tuning changes include a lowered ride height and new pillow-ball bushings in front and stiffer bushings for the rear subframe that supports the double-wishbone suspension - these improve camber and toe stiffness.
Both the front and rear suspension systems employ higher-rate springs and thicker front and rear stabilizer bars than the 2010 model: 21 mm vs. 20 mm in front and 19 mm vs. 18 mm in rear. Spring rates have increased by 15.6 percent in front and 53 percent in the rear.
New standard 18-inch aluminum wheels feature high-luster paint and weigh 17.6 lbs. less than the previous standard wheels. The optional 18 x 8.5-in. BBS® forged aluminum-alloy wheels, which further reduce unsprung vehicle weight, are highlighted by silver high-luster paint for 2011.
Exclusive to the Subaru Impreza WRX STI, the Brembo Performance Brake System uses ventilated 4-wheel Super Sport anti-lock (ABS) disc brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Super Sport ABS can control the braking forces at each rear wheel independently, which optimizes braking ability during hard cornering to help reduce understeer.
The Ultimate Performance Subaru
The 2011 WRX STI continues as the ultimate-performance Subaru with its high-boost 305-hp turbocharged/intercooled 4-cyl. Boxer engine and 6-speed manual transmission. The STI also features Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) version of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with three "Auto" modes, as well as a manual mode with six driver-selectable differential locking settings.
The Subaru Impreza WRX STI is equipped with advanced dynamic control systems, as well: the Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system is standard and features a track performance-optimized mode; Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) technology allows the driver to tailor the car's driving characteristics by choosing from among three selectable modes - "Intelligent," "Sport" and "Sport Sharp" - using a rotary dial on the center console.
The 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI models arrive in Subaru dealerships in late summer 2010.
Sporty, Spacious and Versatile Interior
New for 2011, the WRX STI interior is finished in black and silver to highlight its sporty design. Trim panels, the steering wheel air bag cover and steering wheel switches are now dark cast metallic.
The standard tilt and telescopic steering wheel is a three-spoke, leather-wrapped design embossed with the STI logo and features control switches for Bluetooth® hands-free phone function. A new AM/FM stereo with single-disc CD player features Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free calling, iPod control capability, a USB port, 3.5mm aux. input jack and XM/SIRIUS satellite radio (subscription is extra). An available navigation system integrates a vehicle information center and Bluetooth hands-free calling.

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI tS - First Drive Review

More initials mean less weight and more good for the Impreza WRX STI.

June 2011
2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI tS
To most people, the Subaru Impreza is a practical compact sedan with enhanced all-weather capability. But enthusiasts have long known its darker side. The WRX alludes to the WRC rally car, and for several years now, Subaru has offered Americans the STI with even more power. Sophistication, however, isn’t the STI’s thing. It is brash and loud, with a wing that makes it look as if it were ready to launch into outer space.
Now, Subaru is trumping its STI with the tS, which stands for “tuned by STI” and strikes us as redundant. The model will only be sold on Subaru’s Japanese home turf, but we were invited to sample one on the back roads and autobahns near the company’s European Test and Development Center in Ingelheim, Germany. With the "tuned by STI" addendum in mind, we fully expected an Impreza with even more outrageous wings and flares. What we were shown instead by the center's general manager, Hideki Arai, was a rather subtle evolution of the STI. We wouldn't exactly call it refined, but even at first glance, it is visibly more mature and sophisticated.
Nine-Pound Fixation
For one thing, the STI tS loses the STI's massive rear wing, instead sporting a discreet lip spoiler. The carbon-fiber roof cuts nine pounds, as does an aluminum hood, and ultra-lightweight wheels with a unique design save another nine apiece. Arai-san points out a strut brace upfront and says the suspension has been reworked extensively. The Impreza STI tS is available only as a four-door sedan.
The powertrain is unchanged from that in the Japanese-market STI: a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four making 304 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. Those who want an automatic can have one, but they get downgraded to a 296-hp 2.5-liter that makes only 258 lb-ft. Called “A-Line,” the automatic car is significantly cheaper than the manual tS.

We went for the six-speed, of course, and it provides a superb driving experience. There is very little turbo lag, and the 2.0 pulls eagerly throughout the power band. Country roads are this car's domain. The tS is compact and agile, and the nicely weighted steering is a joy to bend into corners. The suspension has been retuned and feels slightly softer than in the regular STI, which helps the tS remain composed even on bumpy and uneven surfaces. It also makes the tS a more agreeable companion on the autobahn, where it remains stable and comfortable as it pulls with alacrity up to its 155-mph top speed. Like the regular STI’s, the tS’s exhaust note is remarkably unobtrusive, and for our taste, it could be a bit more aggressive.
BMW in Subaru’s Sights?
But the tS is not about having an aggressive demeanor—it is about sophistication. “We would like to use high tech to compete with the premium segment,” Arai-san explains. And although he acknowledges that Subaru isn't there yet, he would like nothing more than eventually to see the STI tS compared with the likes of a BMW M3. That sounds like a stretch, but we will say that the idea of adding a higher-performing, more tastefully executed level to the WRX family is highly appealing.
Although the tS’s first run of 500 units will be confined to the Japanese market, Subaru is seriously considering launching the line abroad. The tS concept could be stretched to other model lines, perhaps including the imminently arriving two-door sports car. We would like to see the tS further separated from the WRX and STI models, but the STI tS is a great first step. “We will watch the market and would like to get a reaction,” says Arai-san. Ours is emphatically positive.

2012 Subaru Impreza Debuts

Talk about good timing. Just as gas prices are creeping perilously close to the psychological breaking point of five bucks per gallon, the all-new 2012 Subaru Impreza is heading to dealers this fall with an emphasis on fuel efficiency. Subaru is attempting to catapult the 2012 Impreza into mainstream relevancy without abandoning its enthusiastic core.
An all-new 2.0-liter "FB"-series flat-4 engine churns out 148 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 145 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm, some 22 hp and 25 lb-ft less than the base 2.5-liter EJ25 in the outgoing Impreza. It's a safe guess that the 2.5-liter FB currently in thewill eventually find its way into the new Impreza, but at launch the 2.0-liter will be the only engine available.
Adopting a much more undersquare (its stroke is larger than the cylinder bore diameter) layout, the new boxer is heavily slanted toward fuel economy, although acceleration is said to improve slightly, too. In Subaru's testing, the 2012 sedan with CVT reaches 60 mph in 9.8 seconds, an improvement of 0.3 second to the outgoing car equipped with the automatic.
The view from the driver seat is impressive. Visibility has been markedly improved, a result of a lower dashboard and a window line that slopes down to a fixed corner window at the base of the A-pillar. The side mirrors are positively huge and the steering wheel adjusts for both reach and rake. Soft-touch materials have been added all around, too, raising the cabin's perceived quality.
he Impreza's basic layout remains intact — the front end is supported by MacPherson struts and the rear by double-wishbones, though the geometries are new. For sharper responses, engineers added rebound springs to the front struts to limit body roll, and replaced several rubber bushings with reduced-compliance spherical bearing attachments. The steering rack is more solidly mounted, too, which ought to add some precision to the helm.
We'll have a better idea of how these efforts have coalesced once we drive the 2012 Subaru Impreza in a few months. Stay tuned.

New Subaru Crossover 2012

At the Shanghai Auto Show 2001 and the New York Auto Show 2011 which took place today, Subaru introduced a new crossover concept, namely XV. According to Subaru, is a crossover SUV with a more stylish appearance.

The new concept called "Protren" which derives from a combination of professional tools and trendy design. Precisely, Subaru defines itself that crossover is the functional integration for the professional and stylish appearance of urban and stylish.

Crossover including compact and can be seen from its dimensions, length x width x height: 4450 x 1800 x 1620 (mm), wheelbase 2636 mm. Characteristics that are not less interesting than this crossover is subaru engine embedded, namely boxer DOHC, 2.0 liter. However, power and torque produced by this machine can not be explained.

Furthermore, these machines use Lineartronic or CVT transmission that move power to the entire wheel or all-wheel drive (AWD). A unique feature of this AWD, working symmetrically. That is, right and left axles the same length. Subaru crossover appearance more manly by installing tires 245/45-ZR19.

subaru impreza

The Subaru Impreza is from the smaller car segment. It is a heavily overlooked car because it is priced little more than the popular brands and also lacks awareness as a brand.
But this could be the right kind of car for people seeking power packed fun in a small car.
The Subaru Impreza derives its performance edge from the power train which is very different than the rest and this model has always come with an all wheel drive. There is an element of extra traction when the roads are slippery. In models which are able to deliver a higher horsepower the Subaru Impreza comes with a good chassis which provides the driver with excellent handling. The power train is derived from a horizontal placed four cylinder Configuration.
The latest model of Subaru Impreza is a much refined a bigger car than its predecessors. It comes as a four door hatchback in sedan. It comes in two trims and the first one is 2.5i and WRX coupled with a turbocharged Configuration. It can produce up to 170 horse power with this combination. The drive train passes through five speed manual transmission and having an automatic transmission is also a choice.
