Sleek and Shiny Big-Boy-Toys
generation Cooper
With the slogan “Always Open” MINI unveiled the convertible versions of it’s successful second generation Cooper and Cooper S models.
The Cooper will come with a 118hp four-cylinder engine and the Cooper S with a 172hp powerplant.
Impressively MINI claims a 22 percent reduction in emissions and fuel compared to the past convertible model.
The last Convertible version of the MINI Cooper was a sales success with 164,000 units sold. MINI expects equally impressive sales for the second gen ‘vert after the new coupe models posted surprisingly high sales during 2008.
In fact MINI sold roughly 232,000 units last year (with the US accounting for roughly one-quarter of those). This gave the company a sales growth of 29 percent over 2007.
For the 2010 MINI Convertible, MINI is putting its “Always Open” motto into practice with the inclusion of an “Always Open timer.” This fun gimmick will allow drivers to keep track of how long they drive with the top down.
Official release after the jump:
MINI CONVERTIBLE MAKES WORLD DEBUT AT NAIAS 2009
01/09/2009
Electric MINI E shares center stage: Driving pleasure without emissions.
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – January 9, 2009… MINI will introduce the next generation of its celebrated four-seat convertible at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Joining the 2009 MINI Convertibles on the show floor is the MINI E, the first electric car deployed by a manufacturer of premium automobiles for private use in daily traffic.
The new 2009 MINI Convertible embodies the thrill of open-air motoring in unmistakably MINI style. Raising the high standard set by its predecessor, the new MINI Convertible features improvements in design, quality, handling, performance, efficiency and functionality. The first MINI Convertibles will be delivered March 28, 2009.
Design cues clearly link the new convertible to the MINI family, while the evolutionary design maintains the appeal of the first generation.
A sliding roof allows the driver to automatically open and close the soft top while the car travels up to 20 miles per hour. The “Openometer” records the time spent travelling with the roof down.
Central safety electronics activate a new electromechanically operated rollover bar in the event of a rollover. The innovative safety bar allows for optimum visibility to the rear and sides while the MINI avoids rollovers via run-flat tires, tire pressure monitoring and a sophisticated driving stability system.
An optional loading storage system between the luggage and passenger compartments expands cargo space. The easy-load system includes: an expanded luggage compartment opening, seat backrests that can be folded down and locked into position, and a pivoting, two-position shelf for packages.
A new generation of four-cylinder gasoline engines feature 1.6-liter engines. The MINI Cooper Convertible produces 118 horsepower from its naturally aspirated version with variable valve management; the MINI Cooper S Convertible delivers 172 hp with the help of a Twin-Scroll turbocharger and direct fuel injection. Both engine variants are equipped with technical features that maximize fuel economy and minimize emissions.
The suggested retail price for the MINI Cooper Convertible is $24,550, and for the MINI Cooper S Convertible, $27,450 including $650 destination and handling charge.
MINI E: Agility without emissions
The MINI E provides the agility and handling of a MINI Cooper yet is powered by a 204 horsepower electric motor fed by a high-performance rechargeable lithium-ion battery capable of more than 150 miles. Power transfers to the front wheels via a single-stage helical gearbox nearly without a sound and entirely free of emissions.
The MINI E’s electric drivetrain produces seamless acceleration to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 95 mph. With a suspension designed particularly for the MINI E and an even weight distribution, the MINI E offers the spirited driving pleasure of a true MINI.
During the first quarter of this year, the MINI E will become available to select private and corporate customers as part of a pilot project in California, New York and New Jersey. By introducing the MINI E, the BMW Group is underscoring its resolve to reduce energy consumption and emissions. Putting some 500 cars on the road under real daily traffic conditions will give BMW Group valuable know-how, which will be factored into the engineering of mass-produced vehicles. The BMW Group aims to start series production of all-electric vehicles over the medium term.
Based on the current MINI, the car will initially be available as a two-seater. The back-seat space is reserved for the lithium-ion battery. It can be plugged into all standard power outlets. Its charge time is strongly dependent on the voltage and amperage of the electricity flowing through the grid. In the USA, users can recharge a battery that has been completely drained within a very short period of time using a wall box that will be installed in the customer’s garage to enable higher amperage. Wall boxes fully recharge batteries after a mere two-and-a-half hours.
MINI E customers will join forces with BMW Group experts to assist in the project’s scientific evaluation. The cars will change hands based on a one-year lease with an extension option. Monthly lease installments will cover any required technical service including all necessary maintenance and the replacement of wear parts. At the end of the lease, all of the automobiles belonging to the project will be returned to the BMW Group’s engineering fleet where they will be subjected to comparative tests.

The Unique Cars Modification
Unlike owners of brands like Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini, which compared to these cars, are common, these owners want to take car modification to the extreme….’how low can you go?’, ‘how big n bad is your spoiler?’. You can quite easily spend the same money on these cars as on purchasing a Ferrari.

Citroen Unveils the Lacoste Concept

Citroen Lacoste
Ok, the Lacoste is just a concept car at the moment, but it definitely is something new, combining sport and fashion for a car of the future which has thrown away all usual design concepts.
Unlike modern cars seen today which sport bigger and meaner engines, the Citroen Lacoste only features an engine in three cylinders that runs on petrol, but which offers enough performance for a car of this size and weight. But you must bear in mind that the concept wasn’t designed with speed in mind.
The open philosophy is encountered in the car’s looks. The cabin is open, with no doors or roof save for a t-shaped beam that resembles a backbone, to allow easy access to and from the vehicle. Its coat of paint is pearlescent white, to reflect its purity.
It will be interesting to see how this concept will turn out.

2011 Pagani Zonda Tricolore - Pagani Unique Hypercar

Pagani will introduce the rare cars in the Geneva Motorshow, the 2011 Pagani Zonda Tricolore. Pagani has come up with a new carbon fibre finish for the body of the Zonda Tricolore and there are unique air intakes mounted on top of the rear wings styled to look like the intakes of the jet fighters used by the display team.

In 2010 the aerobatic season of the Frecce Tricolori comes to its 50th anniversary, wich will be celebrated on 11th and 12th September at Rivolto Airport.

The Frecce Tricolori (Italian, literally Tricolour Arrows), officially known as the 313th Aerobatic Training Squadron is the demonstration team of the Italian Air Force, based at Rivolto Air Force Base, in the north-eastern Italian region of Friuli Venezia-Giulia, province of Udine. They were formed in 1961 as an Air Force team, replacing previous teams that had been sponsored by various commands by the end of the 1920s.

The Tricolore comes with a 678bhp version of the Zonda’s 7.3-litre V12, Mercedes-sourced engine and it’s good for 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 220mph. You’ll need to be as quick as the FrecceTricolore to grab the £1.3 million Pagani Zonda Tricolore though, as Pagani reports several customers have shown an interest in buying the unique hypercar. You should see the Photos Car of the unique design.

The team flies the Aermacchi MB-339-A/PAN, a two-seat aircraft capable of 898 km/h at sea level, with nine aircraft and a solo (the highest number of aircraft of any aerobatic team in the world).

The Frecce Tricolori belong to the legacy of the entire Italian community. This special edition Zonda is named after the Italian air force aerobatics team, known as the Frecce Tricolori. Italian colored stripes (red, white, green) running up the nose of the car and LED running lights set this Zonda apart from the others. Only 1 will be made at a cost of $2.75 million.

Formula 1 Meets Art: The 2011 Calendar ‘World Champion Cars’ by Jorge Garcia
Formula 1 Meets Art:
The 2011 Calendar ‘World Champion Cars’ by Jorge Garcia
The most successful racecars in the history of Formula 1 racing – illustrated by Argentinean artist Jorge Garcia – are now featured in the fascinating 2011 calendar ‘World Champion Cars.’
The artist from Buenos Aires has created unique and highly detailed photo-realistic artworks that show the side profiles of 13 cars that have won the Formula 1 world championship. Starting with Alberto Ascari’s 1952 Ferrari F 500 and ending with Michael Schumacher’s world champion Ferrari F2004 car these works of art document the breathtaking speed of technological development in Formula 1 racing.
The selection of featured racecars reads like the “Who’s Who” of Grand Prix motorsports. Garcia, who has won many international awards for his art, also set his talent to work on the 1954 Mercedes W 196 R Streamliner driven by his legendary compatriot Juan Manuel Fangio. The racing ‘log boats’ of the 1960s are represented by the Ferrari 156, world champion in 1961 with Phil Hill behind the wheel, Jim Clark’s 1965 Lotus Climax and Jackie Stewart’s Matra MS80 from 1969.
Jaguar Celebrates Its 75th Birthday at the Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance
Jaguar has a deep understanding of the word "tradition.” It has been the cornerstone that has ruled the famous luxury car manufacturer from Coventry since its foundation.
In order to celebrate its 75 years of history and English tradition, Jaguar participated in the Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance, held in the fashion high street of Rodeo Drive, in the posh ambiance of Beverly Hills, Calif.

The event is a Father's Day tradition that every year draws thousands of Southern California car aficionados and tourists alike. Born as a Ferrari-only event, it is still organized in partnership with the Italian carmaker. The theme of this year's Concours was "A Different Road," which included an unbelievable range of collectors cars: from the early classics of 1925 - 1948 to European cars and pre-1975 American automobiles. Of course, Jaguar was proud to offer test drives of the all-new 2011 XJ alongside its vintage model line-up. The thousands of attendees were ravished by the astonishing collection of vintage Jaguars on display.
Bruce Meyer, Chairman of the Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance, outlined its creation like a proud father would describe his son's school or sports achievements, "We are on Rodeo Drive, the very famous fashion street and this is a show that I started quite a few years ago. It is about automobiles, fashion and watches. It is a special show because it takes place on Father's Day, so fathers come with no guilt of leaving their families for going to a car show. We have admirers that tell us how much they like cars. People are here for the sport of it and for sharing their cars."

The highlights of the day were the rare 1956 Jaguar D-Type, three-time LeMans winner and also the winner of the Concours' Jaguar "Best in Class" Award; a fabulous 1950 roadster XK120 OTS, famous for its innovative design and for being the world's fastest standard production car at the time of its launch. Another celebrated work of art was the 1964 Jaguar Semi Lightweight E-Type, proudly owned by Meyer.
Being so close to Hollywood, it was a natural consequence to have some celebrity presence. Stars like David Alan Grier ("In Living Color" and "RACE"), Zachary Levi ("Chuck") and James Remar ("Sex in the City" and "Dexter") were all on hand. Moreover, Patrick Dempsey's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was a big hit of the event, along with Mel Tormé's 1937 Jaguar SS100 and reality TV star Colby Donaldson's 1969 Camaro.

"A Different Road" is also the slogan of the show-stealing 2011 Jaguar XJ. After attending the Concours, there could not be a better catchphrase for all of the elegant and unique cars displayed on Rodeo Drive. Meyer was also on the Drive Committee for The Robb Report, so he had the chance to test the all-new XJ in Napa Valley, and shared his feelings for the car, "It is absolutely spectacular, it totally took me by surprise, I am a fan of Jaguar and the 2011 XJ performed like a sports car. I liked everything about that car; it is roomy, powerful and has a very solid feeling. It is innovation and tradition."

What an absolutely fantastic way to celebrate Jaguar's 75th birthday and for all the fathers that attended the Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance, it was another testimony of Jaguar's inimitable approach to luxury and tradition.
