The Eyes Of Texas Are Upon You

All the live long day…
Texas is an interesting state. It’s the second largest state in the United States, next to Alaska. With a width of 773 miles and a length of 790 miles, traveling from West Texas (Crane) to Central Texas (Austin) is like passing through different states.

The Permian Basin is what the region where I live is called. According to Wikipedia it is so named because it has one of the world's thickest deposits of rocks from the Permian geologic period. As far as looks, it’s pretty much a desert I suppose. Contrary to popular belief, there are trees out here. We call them trees but in most places they are called Mesquite bushes! It’s an oil and natural gas producing area, basically flat.

If you fly to Austin from here it’s about 291 miles. If you drive it’s about 350 miles and takes at least six hours. Sometimes, because of flight schedules, it takes the same amount of time to fly as drive!

Driving to Austin goes from flat brown desserts to lush green hills and trees. It’s funny how you can see the actual changes the further east you go. The wild flowers this time of year are amazing. I’ll just say again how beautiful they are! This time, instead of so many blue bonnets there are yellow, red, orange and little white flowers. There are still blue bonnets too, and all together they are amazing! The colors remind me of the trees changing in Vermont.

I got to start the day listening to kindergarten students sing the songs of Texas. There’s nothing as refreshing as hearing sweet little voices, singing loudly, on or off key! They put all they had into their program. Of course, I had my eye on my oldest DGS, E, as they were singing. He practiced and he knew all of the songs. He was on the front row! I had my camera but forgot it in the car so I had to use my phone to take a picture. It’s not a great picture and I caught him sideways but he did a “bery good job!”

After the program I headed to Odessa to pick up a friend for the journey to Austin. We were on the way to WHIBSIB! It was a long but good trip and we got a royal welcome when we arrived!

It only seemed fitting for my knitayear to be red, white and blue today, like the Texas flag. I was in a proud mood today, proud this was my first month of knitayear, proud of E for singing his songs, proud to be a Texan and proud to be an American where I can say I’m proud to be a Texan! And…

The eyes of Texas are upon you, you cannot get away.
Do not think you can escape them, at night, or early in the morn'.
The eyes of Texas are upon you, till Gabriel blows his horn!

Anticipation...

Is makin' me late,
Is keepin' me waitin'...

Well, that and the dryer! I’m waiting for some clothes to dry so I can finish packing for the WHIBSIB weekend. WHIBSIB stands for what happens in Buda stays in Buda. Buda is a little town or maybe a suburb I guess, of Austin. Every year a bunch of us meet. It’s always called WHIBSIB whether it’s actually in Buda or not!

It’s a ladies weekend. No kids, no husbands and no dogs! We all have a common interest and that’s yarn. We all know how to knit. Some know how to crochet as well. Some spin, some weave and some dye yarn. We have a lot of fun. Besides yarn things we visit, play and shop. We also have wine but friends don’t let friends knit drunk!

The strangest thing about the weekend is how we all met. Of course some people were friends and knew each other but most of us met through the Internet. We have a knitting listserv and know each other online. I felt a little odd the first time I went. I was going to meet a bunch of strangers who said they were knitters. How did I know? I didn’t. I went on good faith and spent the weekend with a bunch of strangers who have become my friends.

Now when I go I’m excited to see my old friends and anxious to meet new ones. I look forward to seeing new yarn, petting people’s projects and maybe even learning something! I want to see the yarn my roommate has been spinning. I want to see the weaving projects another friend created. I want to see the new sweaters and shawls and scarves. I want to relax and enjoy a fun weekend without anything work related tied to it. I’ll miss the people who can’t come but I’ll be happy to see the Internet strangers who have become my friends. And I’ll remember another WHIBSIB!

My knit a year has almost become one month old! I was so tired Wednesday I chose a gray with a little sparkle. It’s Moonlight Mohair so I thought it was fitting. For Thursday I found some orphan yarn called Ci Ci that looked bright and happy. I couldn’t imagine why I had it in the first place but then remembered it was pretty with a wool yarn in a felted piece. It’s happy colors! I just heard the dryer so I’d best get packing.

We can never know about the days to come, but we think about them anyway, yay.
And tomorrow we might not be together. I'm no prophet and I don't know nature's ways. So I'll try and see into your eyes right now and stay right here 'cause these are the good old days…

BMW TO LAUNCH ELECTRIC CAR IN 2013

In this era of global warming, car manufacturers are competing to produce emission free cars. Famous German car manufacturer BMW motors, is planning to launch its eco-friendly, emission free car. This all electric 4-door car which is expected to roll out in 2013. Earlier, BMW motors had planned to launch it by 2015. BMW seems to have changed their mind as their major rival Mercedes Benz announced the launch of an electric version of its mini "Smart" car as well as the Mercedes A Class this year. Volkswagen's electric car also is expected to touch the roads in 2013.
The name, price and other details of the new BMW eco friendly car has not yet released.
With so many eco-cars on thier way, it will be quite interesting to note whether they match the Indian conditions and how competively they are priced.

Kansas Road Runner Turbo 300 Preview

The IZOD IndyCar series returns to action this weekend at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. The Kansas race will be the first oval of the 2010 season and begins a stretch of four consecutive ovals the series will run, highlighted by the 94th Indianapolis 500. Several storylines have developed since we last saw the IZOD IndyCar Series in Long Beach where Ryan Hunter-Reay took him his first win of the season, and his first with his new team, Andretti Autosport. IndyCar Garage gives you storylines to watch going into Saturday’s race.

TV Coverage -
Saturday - ABC Prerace coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. EST
Note: ABC Coverage ususally only does about 15 minutes of prerace before they drop the green

(Will Danica Patrick improve on the ovals?)

1. The first stretch of Oval’s begins

Kansas begins a stretch of ovals for the IZOD IndyCar Series, and for many fans this begins what they consider the real season starting. If you’re an early IRL fan, then ovals are all you know, but if you’re a die-hard IndyCar fan, then this is just a different aspect of the series. Kansas should be provide great side by side racing and hopefully a close finish. Kansas is a 1.5 oval similar to that of Chicago, and the racing and finishes at Chicago have been outstanding. The aero package from last year was not in place at Kansas last year, so it should be interesting and fun to see how it impacts the racing.

2. Highest Car Count of the season

27 cars will take the green flag on Saturday, and that will represent the highest car count since the merger in 2008, excluding the Indy 500. 27 is just a number, but it represents a change in the tune toward IndyCar. In In comparison the Milwaukee race last year, had just 20 cars and that was just a week after the Indy 500. John Andretti will join on as a tune up for the Indy 500 and represent Andretti Autosport’s fifth car. Sarah Fisher will become a two car team with Jay Howard and Sarah herself making their 2010 dĂ©buts. Graham Rahal ran three races for SFR earlier in the season, but will not be in a ride for Kansas.

3. News around the IndyCar Series, heating up!

Several newsworthy items have hit the IZOD IndyCar Series over the last two weeks and many of them appear to be positive. Randy Bernard just announced that their will be an oval champion (8 races) and road/street course (9 races) champion crowned at Sonoma (last road course)and Motegi (second to last oval), and the fans will have a say in naming the trophies that represent those two trophies(Foyt and Andretti seem logical choices). In other news, Daytona International Speedway track president was quoted in the paper recently as saying he would listen to a call from the IRL if they were interested in a race, since the track will be repaved this summer. If any racing at Daytona takes place with the IRL involved, look for 2012, at the earliest possible. The entry list for the 2010 Indy 500 was announced and 40 driver/car combinations are listed, look for exciting action on Pole Day and Bump Day. All in all, the series is experiencing POSITIVE NEWS that can only get better!

4. Can Danica get back in her grove?

Danica Patrick has one top ten finish this season and it was mainly due in part to pit strategy. Danica has struggled mightily on the road/street courses, largely in part due to poor qualifying efforts. Danica’s game seems to be on the ovals, and Kansas is her first chance to prove she is worthy of her good ride with Andretti Autosport. Danica mania has faded fast within the IndyCar circles and if she can’t regain her savvy that allowed her to finish fifth in points last year, then look for her to possibly give NASCAR more of a look, but then again, she didn’t blow anybody out of the water in her Nationwide experiment.

5. Penske / Ganassi oval domination?

Penske and Ganassi dominated every oval race of the season last year , highlighted by Helio Castroneves dominance at Indy. Penske and Ganassi domination on the ovals usually comes in two words: More Resources. Penske and Ganassi are the two heavyweights in the IZOD IndyCar Series and that allows them to have every technical advantage out there. Any driver outside of the Penske/Ganassi stable that wins at Kansas this weekend, will be given major props for upsetting the two heavily funded teams.

6. Graham Rahal

Graham Rahal will miss his second race of 2010, and not because of injury. Most know of Rahal’s sponsorship situation from earlier in the year and that was somewhat fixed when Sarah Fisher Racing signed him to fill in for her during the road/street course portion of the schedule. Sarah is back in her seat for the ovals and Graham is now rideless again. We all know Graham is the future of the series and wants to stay in open wheel, but sitting on the sidelines during an ABC race, just hurts. What could be a major blow is Graham sitting out the Indy 500 next month. Graham’s name has come up with his dad’s team, Rahal-Letterman, but nothing appears firm at this point. Hopefully Graham finds a ride and we can avoid the bright young 21 year star sitting on the sidelines.

7. The undercard race on Saturday

Unfortunately and almost intentionally the IZOD IndyCar Series will be looked at this weekend as an undercard race for this week’s action at Kansas Speedway. The NASCAR Truck Series is also racing at Kansas and will be the main race on Sunday afternoon. NASCAR did this for two reasons, first they can because they own the track through International Speedway Corporation, and two they don’t want both of their series running on the same day, the Sprint Cup runs Richmond Saturday night. Randy Bernard hasn’t had to deal with ISC yet, but he is going to meet them head on this weekend when they run at Kansas. Bernard has stated publicly that he knows the France family from his PBR days and that the IZOD IndyCar Series will need to be involved on ISC tracks in the future. Kansas represents a huge test for the way Bernard plans to handle ISC and the lack of promotion behind the event. No matter how you look at it, the IZOD IndyCar Series is running their race on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 EST, not the ideal time for a race and probably not going to attract the best ratings. The IndyCar / ISC situation is only going to intensify as we get deeper into the season.

MAHINDRA CUTS THE PRICE OF LOGAN

Soon after their break up with Italian car manufacturer Renault, the famous Indian automobile manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra reduces the price of Mahindra Logan by Rs. 24,000 - Rs. 80,000 to provide value for money to its customers. The split between Mahindra and Renault was all about the design and engineering of Logan. Mahindra knows that it is not possible to compete in the Indian car market where a large number of freshly designed cars are being rolled out by the rivals, with the current outdated design of Logan. The price reduction may help to lift the sales of Logan, but Mahindra have to upgrade quickly to make a place in fast growing automobile in India.

2011 Audi RS3 Spy Shots

The same story is repeating itself, remember that the Audi A3 and had a few extra years when first launched the Audi S3, now I think the S3 is already a bit old, but just seen some spy photos of RS3, what which means that come when the S3 is in its third age.

However, despite all that, we can not deny that this car looks much better than previous ones, and also take an engine Audi TT RS, which will be five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI to be a power of approximately 340 hp.
Design Within
see that had some pretty interesting changes as the suspension is harder now, also has a front air intakes more pronounced as well as new tires and new and powerful brakes.

Hopefully in a few months can be launched the new Audi RS3, which is being very well by now.

2012 Volkswagen Golf MkVII Spied Testing

The countdown has begun. Volkswagen is working on the Nordschleife to the first test mules of the new Golf MkVII that it still are collecting all the information possible to tune the chassis properly. The current rush the MkVI was more of a restyling fat than anything else, and although no one doubts its commercial results, it is obvious that his was an upgrade to 2.0 MkV more than a generation gap with all the letters.

Spy photos of today do not teach us any details with which we can imagine the features of the next Golf (think that although the platform is new, still have the old body), but it would be logical that Volkswagen began to leave with him the keen features that are already part of other spectrum from the Pole and to the Touareg. Not that I expect anything revolutionary if we stick with some clay model "filtered" by the mark for months. Anyway, the new Golf goes on sale in 2012, so do not take too long to see the first prototypes with the body of pre-production.
