Hyosung Brand of Two-Wheelers to Re-Enter India as Garware Hyosung

Textile Company Garware announced its entering the automobile market with the launch of Garware Motors. The company has joined hands with the Korean automaker to launch Hyosung brand of two-wheelers in India as Garware Hyosung. The company will bring in two models of motorcycles in the 650-700 cc range. Its models Cruise Bike ST7 and Super Bike GT650 are expected to be introduced in the Indian market by the first quarter of 2011.


Garware Motors with the help of S&T Motors will set up an assembly plant at Wai in Maharashtra with a capacity to manufacture 8-10 bikes a day. The plant would have a full-fledged assembly line, CKD storage facility, test track and a quality centre. Ibanez said that the new bikes will be priced in the range of Rs5,00,000-6,50,000.

“The idea is to make powerful and aspirational bikes available to the Indian enthusiasts at affordable prices. We are committed to provide a world-class biking experience to enthusiasts from India. To start with we will be targeting 10 Indian cities that include metropolitan as well as Tier one cities and will spread later to tier two and tier three cities,” said Diya Garware Ibanez, managing director, Garware Motors Limited.

Currently, Harley Davidson is offering products in similar range, while Bajaj Auto is soon planning to launch Kawasaki Ninja 650r, which will be fully manufactured in India. The new Hyosung bikes will be initially present in 10 cities of India, which include Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi and Goa.
